Am I to blame?

Worried

December 26, 2006

Dear Labi,

Since the age of nine, I've been masterbating. I would use my hand and just rub it against... yeah. Well now I've noticed that one lip (minora) protrudes, and the other one doesn't. The other one is basically non-existant. Is this because of masterbating? Have I rubbed it so much that it became way longer than the other?

I'm still young. I know, I know, terms of agreement, blah blah blah. But your site was the only one that could help me out. Will the other one grow in?

I'm so confused. I feel so... undesirable. I mean, not only does it protrude, but it's assymetrical. It makes me feel like I'm to blame. It's kind of uncomfortable, too, how it always stick to my panties.

Anyways, help please. Thanks. ♥

Dear Worried,

I don't think masturbating is the cause of having one enlarged labium. Although I don't know for sure, I tend to believe that the estrogen receptors are often distributed unequally in the labia minora. Estrogen receptors (ER) are things that make the labia grow when they come in contact with estrogen (a female hormone). When one labium has a larger amount of ER than the other one, the surge of hormones during puberty could cause it to grow larger than the other one.

If it was caused by too much rubbing on one side, it might be evened out by rubbing the other side more. But like I said, I don't think that's the case.
