Humiliated! Why?

When I was a baby, a nurse complained to my father about the size of my labia. She told him that my mother had been doing drugs and that's why it was too big. When I was 15 my father mentioned it and I felt so embarassed! I actually refused to let my boyfriend give me oral sex because of it! I wouldn't explain why and he felt almost as confused as I did. Later my doctor suggested surgery, I was infuriated and hurt. I still feel shy about it and I'm not sure it's attractive. I spoke to my boyfriend about it and he seemed to be more fearful for my withering selfesteem more than anything. I'm 19 now and still not sure if it's 'normal' or even a possible side effect of my mother smoking marijuana while I was in her womb. I've been with my boyfriend since I was 15, he seems supportive but he's not giving me a clear yes or no about anything. :\

Oh my God. What an ignorant nurse. Babies, both male and female, are often born with somewhat swollen and enlarged genitalia due to the process of being born. Also, female babies actually absorb some of the estrogen in their mother's system and can temporarily have enlarged labia due to this. This is all totally normal, and has nothing to do with drug use!
You are normal! Grab your boyfriend and enjoy yourself!
