Thank you for posting that, Antony. I don't understand why they just don't prosecute this and follow the law? Cowards. Sounds like just what the bastards want--anything that falls under the guise of culture and religion is essentially off-limits for prosecution. How nice for them (sarcasm). Seriously fucked up.  

I'm an American with roots all over the British Isles, so I've always held a somewhat romanticized view of England, Scotland, etc, but the more I hear and read about what is allowed to go on there, the more disgusted I get. Not that America is a whole lot better. FGM happens here as well.

Genital integrity for both sexes, all races and skin colors, all religions. It that so hard to understand?  

Between the millions of non-white women forced to undergo FGM, and the thousands of western-world white women doing a form of it voluntarily (labiaplasty/reduction), what message does that send?

Anna - thanks for your comments, the message fgm &n labiaplasty sends is one of disrespect and contempt for people's sexuality and autonomy.
FGM has been illegal in Britain for 25 years and there has not been a single prosecution due to PC cowardice, I don't know whether there have been any prosecutions in USA, now they have a large Somali Muslim community you can bet it goes on, so it is something people should be campaigning on.
The mass media should start by doing their job and reporting on the issue - but knowing what they are like on "cultural sensitivities", I'm not holding my breath.
